Beach Volleyball

Despite the lack of sunny beaches in North Iceland you can find two beach volleyball courts in Húsavík. They are located next to Húsavík Museum, the location of the courts may as well be found here below.

Cross-Country Ski

15 minutes outside of Húsavík you will find Heiðarbær campsite and swimming pool. A swimming pool with a hot tub is open (June–September) every day from 11:00 until 22:00, in September it is from 17:00 until 21:00.

Disc Golf

Frisbee Golf Courses have been popping up all over the country as a result of the sports growing popularity in Iceland. Húsavík has a five hole course. 

It is on the opposite site of the camping area - on the left side if you are driving northeast.

A formidable nine hole course, crossing streams and navigating awkward slopes, the local golf course (Katlavöllur) is tucked away from civilization in a wonderfully remote pocket of Húsavík landscape. 

With excellent views across the bay, and back towards Húsavík Mountain, it´s well respected as being one of the finest in Iceland. Offering something for all levels of experience, you can hire golf clubs on site if needs be or if you come off season, have no fear!

Fishing

Fishing is a popular sport all around the country and of course also possible around Húsavík.

To protect the stocks fishing is heavily regulated in Iceland. For many lakes a license is required. The so called Veiðikort or Fishing card can be purchased around the country, covers many waters and is a good option if you travel around the country.

Playground

For the younger ones, a playground is placed in middle of town. It includes a large jumping balloon, and next to it are tables and benches that can be used to get refueled when more energy is needed. Detailed location can be found below.

Running Tour

The History of Iceland in Seven Miles is a running tour which goes through a natural reserve and Iceland's history. The 11 km running path stretches from the harbor to the Botnsvatn lake, via the public park. Guests learn about Vikings, medieval Sagas, Denmark's colonialism, volcanos and earthquakes, climate change, and Nazi attacks on Húsavík. All the while experiencing wild nature and stunning scenery.

Mountain Biking

Actively enjoy the beautiful landscape of Northeast Iceland on a mountain-bike tour. There are several options to choose from ranging from short tours for inexperienced riders along the coastline, trips during the midnight sun or longer tours in Vatnajökull National Park where you can see all beauties of Jökulsárgljúfur such as Dettifoss, Hljóðaklettar and Ásbyrgi canyon.

Ski & Snowboard

The new Húsavík Ski Area at Reyðarárhnjúkur is now open 6 days a week. The area was formally opened in December 2019. 

Single-day tickets are sold at the ski lift. Annual tickets can be purchased at the swimming pool in Húsavík.

Yoga & Meditation

There is no better place on earth to connect body, mind and spirit than the tranquil Icelandic landscape. A local yoga studios offer regular courses as well as pop-up courses for groups and individuals seeking inner peace.

Courses are not only offered inside. Regular trips are organized to other outdoor locations such as Flatey island in Skjálfandi Bay. Additional Gong meditation is offered both indoor and at unusual outdoor locations.
