Getting around
There are several convenient ways to travel to Húsavík, depending on your schedule and preferences. Many visitors choose to fly from Reykjavík to Akureyri, then drive the final stretch by rental car, which takes less than an hour and offers a scenic route across North Iceland. Others prefer to rent a car directly in Reykjavík and enjoy the full drive north, which provides flexibility for stops and sightseeing along the way. For those without a car, it is also possible to travel by bus from Reykjavík to Akureyri, and from there continue to Húsavík on a connecting regional route.
Whichever option you choose, reaching Húsavík is straightforward and offers an enjoyable journey through Iceland’s diverse landscapes.

By Bus / Public Transport
Take route 57 from Reykjavík to Akureyri. This journey takes about 6.5 hours. From there, take route 79 from Akureyri to Húsavík, which takes roughly 1 hour.

By flight
You can fly with Icelandair’s daily scheduled flights to Akureyri. From there, you can either take Strætó route 79 (departing from Hof) or rent a car for the final part of the trip.

By Rental Car
Driving from Akureyri to Húsavík takes just over 50 minutes when traveling through the Vaðlaheiði tunnel.
