Gatanöf

Gatanöf, is a sea eroded magmatic dike standing 12 met tall with a good-sized opening through its middle. Gatanöf is a popular motive for photographers. Special care should be taken if descending to the beach at Gatanöf, as the sea bank is steep with loose gravel.

The cape and the beach are listed on the Nature Conservation Register for its unique sea eroded rock formations and magmatic dikes but also beaches and skerries with their high biodiversity. Bakkahöfði is rich in birdlife, especially during May and June when flocks of migratory birds take advantage of beaches and skerries along the cape.
