The main reason to come to our beautiful Húsavík is, for most travellers, whale watching. There’s of course much more to do and to see in town and its surroundings, but, undoubtedly, the majestic giants of the sea have played a major role for years.
2016 is being no less, sightings have been abundant throughout spring and summer with our customary friends, such as Humpbacks, Minkes, Dolphins, Porpoises and many Blue Whales. The best, though, was saved for the past days when less usual species came into Skjálfandi Bay: 10 days ago Killer Whales, 5 days ago Pilot Whales and yesterday Sperm Whales.
And sometimes we hear tourists saying that their guidebooks write whale watching is no good after July!
