Killer Whales in Skjálfandi Bay!

Yesterday, our lively and lovely bay had a very exciting and unexpected visit by a pod of about 15 Killer Whales, including young calves.

Killer Whales, or Orcas, are toothed whales which can be found in all oceans of the World, from Arctic and Antarctic regions to tropical seas, hence they are among the most widely distributed mammals.

Even if the most common Húsavík whale watching sightings are bigger whales, such as Humpbacks Blues Fins and Minkes, or smaller cetaceans, such as Dolphins and Porpoises, we are lucky enough to get pods of Orcas coming into our bay every now and then, spicing even more up the whale watching vibe of the “Whale Capital of Iceland”.

So long, black and white friends!
